Commonwealth Scholarship at National University of Singapore

Overview

The NUS Graduate School for Integrative Sciences & Engineering (NGS) offers research-intensive PhD programmes to talented students who believe there are no artificial boundaries in the world of research. NGS students are provided with a solid foundation in the non-traditional thinking and scientific approaches used in research today, to prepare them for a future on the cutting-edge of science, engineering and related aspects of medicine.

The Commonwealth Scholarship is awarded to talented students with an aptitude for innovative, high calibre PhD research.

Terms

- Monthly stipend of S$3,200 up to 4 years of the PhD studies, or up to date of graduation, whichever is earlier.

- Payment of full tuition fees and some mandatory miscellaneous fees up to 4 years of PhD or up to date of graduation, whichever is earlier.

Other allowances including
computer allowance
book allowance
conference allowance.

- Student must commit to PhD from the outset, cannot exit with MSc.
- No bond.

Eligibility

- All students from any Commonwealth countries and meet the NGS requirements are eligible to apply.
- Graduates with a passion for research.
- Graduates with at least 2nd Upper Honours, or equivalent qualifications.
- GRE is compulsory for students applying from overseas. Only strongly recommended for graduates from local institutions, e.g. NUS or NTU.
- TOEFL is compulsory (ONLY applicable for applicants whose native tongue or medium of undergraduate instruction is not in English).


Condition

Students are not eligible for the President's Graduate Fellowship (PGF).
Award is renewable, subject to satisfactory academic performance of CAP ≥ 3.8 at the end of every semester.

Closing Date for Application

The application from the Commonwealth Scholarships will follow the application deadline of the NGS Scholarship.

Application for August 2011 (Semester I) intake is OPEN.

All applications to NGS will be reviewed as a group for admission to NGS and the scholarship scheme will be determined for each accepted student.
