Overview
The International Journalists' Programmes (IJP) invite applications for journalist bursaries funding the exchange of German journalists with international colleagues in 46 countries. For every German journalist taking part in a programme abroad, a foreign colleague will have the opportunity to work in a German media organisation. Where requested by media organisations or bursary sponsors, participants can also initiate a direct exchange. The intention is for the delegates to gain professional and personal experiences and impressions. At the same time, they contribute to a representation of Germany abroad and to more differentiated reporting within the German borders.
Bursaries
The IJP expects their participants to work in a foreign media organisation and to investigate stories on the ground. A core part of most programmes is also an introduction day, a mid-term meeting, and a final meeting. Depending on the parameters of the individual programme, the IJP awards bursaries between 2,500 Euro and 5,000 Euro (US$2,500-5,000). They are designed to cover the greatest part of the expenses while being abroad.
Target countries
Regions from which bursary applications are accepted include: North and South America, Nothern Europe, Great Britain, Netherlands, South East Asia, GUS (Newly Independent and Commonwealth of Independent States - CIS), Turkey, Middle East, and Southern Africa.
