Overview
The Graduate Program in American Studies at Rutgers-Newark is pleased to announce the Daniel Grover Fellowship, which will contribute to the support of a full-time Masters student in American Studies with a strong interest in the history of Newark, NJ. The two-year fellowship of $10,000 per year is given by Warren and Andrea Grover in memory of their son, Daniel Grover. Daniel graduated from Rutgers-Newark with a psychology major in 1988. He found life at the university immensely rewarding.
The first recipient of the two-year fellowship will be named in the spring of 2010; the second will be announced in the spring of 2011. Students from underrepresented minority groups are encouraged to apply.
Purpose of this fellowship
The fellowship is designed to help a full-time Master of Arts student complete their degree within two years. A recipient of the Daniel Grover Fellowship must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 to be eligible for a second year of funding.
The Graduate Program in American Studies at Rutgers-Newark draws on a faculty with strong interests in race and ethnicity; urban cultures; women and gender studies; cultural history and artistic production; the United States within a global context; and the operations of social institutions. The program also encourages student and faculty interest in public scholarship that engages publics, questions and issues from beyond the university.
How to apply
Prospective students applying to study for the Master of Arts in American Studies who wish to be considered for the Daniel Grover Fellowship should specify this in their application. They should also describe their interest in the history of Newark, NJ. The deadline for applications is 1 April 2010.
