Overview
France: PhD Scholarship in Applied Mathematics and Scientific Computing, FEMTO-ST, Besançon, FRANCE
Applications are invited for a three year PhD scholarship in the FEMTO-ST Institute (see www.femto-st.fr) and Laboratory of Mathematics both at Besançon FRANCE.
This Phd thesis will be dedicated to mathematical and numerical contribution in the fast growing area of Multiscale Modelling. More precisely, the candidate will establish a numerical method to implement a Multiscale Model that we have recently introduced. He will also extend the modelling and numerical implementation to other equations.
Our model relies on homogenization of the wave equation in a periodic structure. Its presentation, its derivation and its mathematical justification are to be found in [1] and [2] for a short and an extended version. Our technique is new and will lead to highly reduced computation time compared to direct simulation. We quote that there exists a strong need in many scientific and industrial areas to have reduced models for wave propagation phenomena in bounded domains.
