Warwick/CSIRO Australia Studentship

Overview

The performance and properties of novel desiccant coated heat exchange surfaces for solar air conditioning
Application deadline: 30th June 2010
Start date: 4th October 2010

Solar air conditioning is an innovative technology is a way of reducing greenhouse-gas emissions in the buildings sector. Adsorption chillers can be used as one way of converting collected solar heat into useful cooling, and are particularly attractive for use with the low temperature solar hot water systems found in many places around the world.

This project will investigate the heat and mass transfer that would occur in the heart of the adsorption chiller when operating with new adsorbent materials and structures. It will contribute to the development of new high efficiency, compact cooling technology with greatly increased market potential.

This project is a partnership between CSIRO (Australia) and the University of Warwick. Although based at Warwick, the student will spend extended periods in Australia using research facilities at CSIRO in Geelong, Victoria and/or Newcastle, NSW.
