Job description
The associate professorship consists mainly of research including publication/
academic dissemination duties and research-based teaching with associated examination duties. In addition, the post may also include a duty to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate. Furthermore, associate professors may be asked to manage research, provide guidance and supervision of assistant professors and researchers as well as take part in academic assessments. The University determines the exact ratio between the different responsibilities. The ratio may vary over time.
The successful candidate will be expected to lead research on the interaction between molecules expressed on the surface of infected erythrocytes and receptors on the vascular lining. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the work at Centre for Medical Parasitology to develop vaccines that can protect pregnant women against malaria.

The teaching aspects of the post in question will include supervision of pre- and post graduate research students and teaching in Microbiology and International Health.
The appointee will participate in the Faculty´s education programmes including undergraduate teaching for students of Medicine, Odontology, Public Health Science, Human Biology, Molecular Biomedicine and/or Medicine & Technology and participate in and develop postgraduate training.
Qualification requirements
Candidates for the associate professorship are required to have attained research and teaching qualifications on a level corresponding to that of a satisfactorily completed assistant professorship; however, such qualifications may also have been attained otherwise. Candidates are required to present documentation for scientific production on an international level as well as documented teaching qualifications.
Due to the job description mentioned above, emphasis will be laid on the following professional and personal qualifications:
Ability to generate and implement innovative and creative research
Extended experience in culturing and manipulating malaria parasites in vitro
International standing within the field
Terms of employment
Salary and employment terms are subject to the collective agreement made between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on the employment of academics in state service. In addition to the seniority-based salary and an annual pensionable supplement of currently DKK 87.945,29 (associate professorship) (1 April 2010 level), a salary supplement may be negotiated on an individual basis.
