Postdoc in Statistical Machine Translation, University of Amsterdam

Overview

The position is in the CoSyne project, which is a new European FP7 project starting in March 2010. CoSyne is a multi-national, collaborative research project involving seven prominent partner institutions in four European countries. The CoSyne project addresses the challenges and opportunities that Machine Translation and cross-language information integration face in a dynamic Wiki context.

The position is based at the University of Amsterdam. We offer a friendly and interactive inter-disciplinary working environment, excellent computing facilities, and newly built offices minutes from the city center.

Requirements

Applicants must have a PhD in Computer Science or Computational Linguistics. The post-doctoral researcher will work on self-learning approaches to Machine Translation in the context of Wiki frameworks. This position is for two years (full time).

We are looking for very strong candidates who:

Have research experience in statistical natural language processing. A background in statistical machine translation is a plus but not a mandatory requirement.
Have a good knowledge of programming in at least one of the following languages: C, C++, Java, Python, or Perl.
Enjoy working with large, real-world data sets
Have excellent communication skills both oral and written

Appointment

The salary is in accordance with the university regulations for academic personnel. The appointment is for two years. The gross monthly salary will range from €2,861 up to a maximum of €2,977 (scale 10/4 and 10/5). Employees receive an 8% holiday bonus on top of the monthly salaries. The collective employment agreement of Dutch universities is applicable.
