Overview
Post-Doctoral Scholarships for research training in South Africa are made available to South Africa citizens or permanent residents under the age of 50 who are in possession of a research doctorate in an approved field of health sciences.
Applications must be submitted to the applicant’s own institution (UCT, Postgraduate Centre & Funding Office, Ms Stacey Moses) by 31 August 2010, to be forwarded to the MRC before 30 September, after a preliminary screening has been done by the institution’s research committee. Please note that the closing dates for applications at the various institutions will precede that of the MRC. Applicants are therefore advised to ascertain the institution’s closing date in order to submit their applications in good time.
Applications will be considered during October/November, and successful applicants will be informed of the outcome immediately after approval.
- First year post-doctoral scientist – R110,000 per annum tax free
- Second year post-doctoral scientist – R120,000 per annum tax free
- Third year post-doctoral scientist – R130,000 per annum tax free
The award can be supplemented provided the combined total of the award plus supplementation does not exceed the institution’s maximum package for a post of that nature.
