Heriot-Watt University is one of the UK's leading universities for business and industry and has a reputation for innovative education, enterprise and leading edge research in science, business, engineering and design. Within the department of Languages and Intercultural Studies, there is an expanding programme of in-sessional and pre-sessional English for Academic Purposes (EAP) designed to equip students with the English language and study competence which will enable them to succeed in the core disciplines at Heriot-Watt.
The university is seeking to appoint a Teaching Fellow in English for Academic purposes (grade 8), starting Sept 2010. The successful candidate will be required to lead and teach on the year-long Foundation Programme as well as contribute to pre and in-sessional scholarship and language support classes for students across the university. They will be expected to contribute to scholarly activity in order to expand the profile of the section.
Candidates should have a first degree plus a Masters degree in Applied Linguistics/ELT or equivalent. They should also have several years' EAP teaching experience and EAP course design, preferably in a British university setting. A clear understanding of the workings of the BALEAP Competency framework is essential.
