Overview
The Department of Sport and The Sport Industry Research Centre (SIRC) within the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing at Sheffield Hallam University are seeking two PhD research students in Sport Management. SIRC has recently been acknowledged as one of the leading research teams in sport-related subjects in the 2008 Research Assessment exercise in which we were ranked 4th in the ResearchResearch ratings while the Department of Sport has an outstanding undergraduate and postgraduate teaching portfolio. The positions are full time over a three year period and in addition to the bursary, your tuition fees will be paid and we will also contribute to your fieldwork costs and personal development costs such as presenting at conferences. Further details of our work can be found at http://www.shu.ac.uk/research/sirc/
You must possess a good honours undergraduate degree and preferably a taught postgraduate degree with a sport management flavour. Furthermore, you will be required to demonstrate the necessary potential for successfully completing a higher degree by research. The successful candidates may also be offered some teaching on the BSc Sport Business Management programme.
The area of PhD study will be negotiated between the successful candidate and the supervisory team. However it will be in the area of one of the Department's and Centre's core strands of work, namely:
•the finance/economics of sport;
•sport marketing;
•sports participation;
•major events and festivals;
•elite sport;
•volunteering;
•sport sponsorship; or
•performance management.
Bursary: £13,650 per annum
Preference for one of the studentships will be given to a candidate looking to complete a PhD in sport finance and who aspires to complete within 3 years.
Informal enquiries to Professor Simon Shibli 0114 225 5920 (s.shibli@shu.ac.uk) or
Mr Robert Wilson 0114 225 3981 (r.j.wilson@shu.ac.uk)
