Overview
The JDS Program started in 1999 under the Grant Aid assistance provided by the Government of Japan. The main objective of the JDS Program is to support human resource development in each participating country by fostering young government officials who are expected to facilitate the social and economic development of their countries in the 21st century. Another aim is for JDS Fellows, because of their experience in Japan, to contribute to the broadening and enhancement of the foundation for bilateral relations between their countries and Japan.
JDS Fellows are expected to acquire specialist knowledge not only for individual capacity building but also for social capacity building and to engage actively and practically in addressing the social and economic development issues in their countries.
Sub-Programs and Components were determined by corresponding to the target priority issues for the social and economic development of Lao P.D.R. JDS participants under the same Sub-Program/ Component will be accepted in the same university.

2. Institution Building and Human Resource Development for Enhancing the Private Sector

3. Improving Basic Education

Eligible Applicants 1. Citizen of Lao P.D.R.;
2. Between the age of 22 and 39 as of April 1, 2011;
3. Must be a full-time Government employee in the Target Organizations (please refer to the Framework or Flyer for details), and has 2 years or more of work experience in duties particularly related to applying 'Sub-Program' / 'Component';
4. Has bachelor's degree (Applicants for Nagoya University must have bachelor's degree in Laws);
5. Has a good command of both written and spoken English (TOEFL score of 500 or higher is preferred);
6. Has not been awarded any scholarship for Master's degree in a foreign country;
7. Has not studied abroad for more than 1 year under any scholarship & returned to Laos during past 2 years;
8. Military personnel registered on the active list or person on alternative military service cannot apply for JDS.
