The Humanities and Social Sciences Group; Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies/Institute for International Law are seeking to recruit
Doctoral Researcher
The Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies, an interdisciplinary research centre of the Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Leuven, initiates and encourages research initiatives in relation to globalization, governance processes and multilateralism, with a particular focus on the following areas: (i) the European Union and global multilateral governance; (ii) trade
and sustainable development; (iii) peace and security; (iv) human rights, democracy and the rule of law. The Institute for International Law at the University of Leuven participates in the Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies. Its research interests go from general international law to international economic law (in particular WTO law), international humanitarian, security and criminal law, human rights law and space law. In the field of EU law its research interests concern the way the EU responds domestically and externally to the challenges of multilateralism and globalization and how it interacts with international law.
Your opportunities
• You conduct doctoral research in the area of EU external relations law in the context of a research project investigating interactions between EU and international law in a number of areas
• You contribute to the current and future research activities of the Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies/Institute for International Law
Your profile
• You obtained a Master of Laws with a clear interest (and if possible demonstrable expertise) in the law of the European Union, international law and the law of international organizations
• You have excellent knowledge of English
• During your studies you obtained excellent results from a leading University. Preferably, you graduated with great distinction (summa cum laude)
• Foreign experience and knowledge of political science or international relations are a plus
Our offer
We offer an employment as full-time doctoral researcher starting on 01/10/2010 for 1 year, renewable till 4 years.
