The University of Nottingham has joined forces with The Lloyd’s Register Educational Trust (The LRET) to launch an exciting new initiative in Risk and Reliability Engineering based in the Nottingham Transportation Engineering Centre (NTEC). As a result of the support of The LRET, the Centre is seeking to appoint two lecturers. The successful candidates will conduct research in the areas of either system maintenance optimisation, or Bayesian belief network applications to system fault diagnostics. They will also be members of a team responsible for the development and delivery of a new distance learning MSc programme in Systems Risk and Reliability Methods.
Nottingham Transportation Engineering Centre (NTEC). NTEC is a major international centre for research into transportation engineering, with a reputation for excellence across a broad range of research and technology-based activities (see: www.nottingham.ac.uk/ntec/). It has an impressive research portfolio, funded by government, industry and the EU, and includes several significant national and international collaborations. The University of Nottingham was named Britain's 'University of the Year' (The Times Higher Awards 2006/7) and ranked by The Higher in the world's Top 70 universities. It is an international institution with campuses in the UK, Malaysia and China. The LRET is an independent charity working to achieve advances in transportation, science, engineering and technology education, training and research worldwide for the benefit of all.
Candidates should hold (or shortly due to be awarded) a PhD in engineering, mathematics, computer science or statistics. Research interest should include system safety, risk or reliability modelling, maintenance modelling, fault diagnostics or a closely related subject. Evidence of the ability to publish research papers and to present work at conferences is required. Experience in IT and computer programming are essential for this post. Excellent communication and team working skills are fundamental to the success of this project.
