Overview
Graduate Study in the History of Science and the History of Medicine at the University of Calgary, Alberta (Canada), for the Academic Year 2010/11. The Department of History together with the History of Medicine and Health Care Program (HOMHCP) invites applications from highly motivated students for graduate work in the History of Science and Medicine.
Value of this assistantship
Successful applicants can expect to receive at least $6,000 CAD plus the cost of tuition and fees for both years of the program. More funding may be available depending on the strength of the application and budgetary circumstances (such as grant applications that are currently under review). Applicants are further encouraged to apply for an additional bursary through the Faculty of Graduate Studies Open Scholarship Competition and also SSHRC’s scholarship program.
Depending on the program applied for (MA/PhD), this one-year (MA) and three year (PhD) program offers in-depth research opportunities and seminars in history of medicine and science.
Eligibility
Applications for the HOMHCP are invited from highly motivated graduates from various backgrounds including arts and humanities subjects, science, and medicine, including medical students who have successfully completed their three or four years of medical school (North America) or, for example, six years of university medical training (Europe) of a qualifying medical degree at an approved university with a high mark on their first degree (or equivalent) who will commit themselves to a dissertation on a subject within the History of Medicine and Health Care.
Applicants for the History of Science should have completed a minimum of seven full-courses in History at the undergraduate level. Overseas applicants are also strongly encouraged to apply.
