We are delighted to announce that UK and EU students applying for PhD study in Social Anthropology at St Andrews are eligible for two ESRC 3 and 4 year quota studentships.
These are extremely prestigious Research Council awards for excellent PhD applicants from the UK and EU. UK applicants receive fees, maintenance and research expenses. EU students normally receive fees and research expenses only. Four year (1+3) awards combine 1 year of MRes) research training with 3 further years' PhD funding. Awards may also be held on a part-time basis.
DEADLINE: Those wishing to be considered for ESRC awards must have submitted their application for admission to the University of St Andrews for the PhD programme by 12th March at the very latest. ESRC applications for competition awards normally have to be submitted to the Councils 12th April, but successful applicants should aim to complete their sections of the form by 10th April. http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/anthropology/prospective/pgrad/

Funding
To be considered for an ESRC award to be held in the Dept of Social Anthropology at St Andrews, candidates must first apply for admission to the PhD. In order to be considered for ESRC funding, complete applications for admission (i.e. including a 2 page research proposal, references and transcripts) must be received before 12th March 2010. Successful candidates nominated for quota awards and open competition awards will be informed by the PG convenor.
Application and how to apply
Information on the ESRC awards and downloadable forms are available at from the ERSC Society Today website. Candidates should NOT complete an ESRC form until they are asked to do so by the relevant PG Advisor. The applicant should have completed his/her section of the ESRC application via the Joint Electronic submission (JeS) system by 12th April 2010.
