Overview
Monbukagakusho , the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) offers various scholarships for non-Japanese nationals wishing to study in Japan. In Ethiopia, the Ministry offers scholarship programs for Research Students, Undergraduate Students and College of Technology Students.
IMPORTANT:
The three MEXT scholarship programs are now open and applications can be submitted up until 31 May 2010.
Only those who with ETHIOPIAN NATIONALITY may apply through the Embassy of Japan in Ethiopia.
NON ETHIOPIAN citizens should apply through the Japanese Embassy/Consulates in their country of citizenship.
RESEARCH STUDENTS
This scholarship offers applicants the opportunity to spend 18 or 24 months conducting independent research under a Japanese professor. Any field of study is eligible for the scholarship, but applicants must find a Japanese professor willing to supervise their research. However, this does not guarantee that the applicant will be placed with that professor.
Interview & Test Date Mid July
Qualifications See No. 2 of the Application Guideline. The Embassy will NOT process any application that does not meet the standards in the Guideline.
Terms of Scholarship
See No. 3 of the Application Guideline.
Application Procedure
Applicants must submit sets of documents as enumerated in No. 7 of the Application Guideline to the Embassy of Japan no later than May 31, 2010. Incomplete application and and application received after this date will NOT be processed.
The application documents must be MAILED to the embassy. Documents submitted in person will NOT be accepted. The mailing address of the Embassy is:

1st Stage
1. Document evaluation.
2. Standardized written examination for those who pass the document screening.
3. Interview for those who pass the written examination.
