Japanese Government Scholarships for American Students in Boston - Professional Training College Students

Overview

Monbukagakusho, the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) offers five different scholarships for non-Japanese nationals wishing to study in Japan.

Only US Citizens living in the SIX New England states may apply through Boston. US citizens living in other states should apply through the consulate responsible for their area. Non-US citizens should apply through the Japanese embassy in their country of citizenship.

This scholarship offers applicants the opportunity to spend up to 3 years at a Japanese professional training school studying one of several fields including:

(1) Civil Engineering
(2) Architecture

(3) Electrical Engineering
(4) Electronics

(5) Telecommunications
(6) Nutrition

(7) Infant Education
(8) Secretarial Studies

(9) Hotel Management
(10) Tourism

(11) Fashion, Dress making
(12) Design

(13) Photography
(14) Other

Deadline

Interview & Test Date

Late June. Exact date TBD


Qualifications

Applicants must be from 17 to 21 years of age as of April 1 of the year of departure.
Applicants must have graduated from high school by March of the year of departure.
Applicants must learn and receive instruction in the Japanese language.

Terms of Scholarship

Applicants will receive an allowance for a tenure of up to 3 years from April of the initial year to March of the second following year (for example, April 2011 to March 2013).

Benefits

Monthly stipend to be determined by MEXT for the period of the scholarship (2009 stipend is 125,000 yen)
transportation to and from Japan (subject to change) school fees (i.e., entrance examination, matriculation, and tuition fees) will be waived
