Japanese Scholarships for Icelandic citizens - Monbukagakusho MEXT Program for Undergraduate Level

Overview

The Japanese Government will award “scholarship for Undergraduate students” to Icelandic citizen.

Applicants who are born between 2 April 1989 and 1 April 1994 and have graduated or will be graduated from a school equivalent to an upper secondary school in Japan by March 2011 are eligible for this scholarship.

This program includes one-year preparatory education of Japanese Language.
MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) of the Government of Japan will provide for a round-trip airfare, school fees, and scholarship for five years from April 2011.

Under the fiscal 2010 budget, the monthly stipend will be 125, 000 yen. (The amount of money is subject to change.)

Eligible study fields include:

(1) Social Sciences and Humanities Social Sciences and Humanities-A: Laws, Politics, Pedagogy, Sociology, Literature, History, Japanese language and others.
Social Sciences and Humanities-B: Economics, and Business Administration.


(2) Natural Sciences

Natural Sciences-A: Science, Electric and Electronic Studies, Mechanical Studies, Civil Engineering and Architecture, Chemical Studies, and other fields.
Natural Sciences-B: Agricultural studies, Hygienic studies, and Science.
Natural Sciences-C: Medicine, and Dentistry.

Scholarship applicants must be in a good mental and physical health, and must have basic knowledge of Japanese Language or be willing to learn Japanese Language. They are also required to leave for and arrive in Japan between the 1st and 7th of April 2011.

First selection will be carried out by the Embassy of Japan in Iceland. The final selection will be made by MEXT.

Completed forms must be submitted to the Embassy no later than 25 June 2010. All applicants who are subsequently short-listed will take written examinations and have an interview in July 2010 at the Embassy.
