Overview
Fellows are selected by the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy, Ulaanbaatar. Applicants will be assessed on the contribution that their study would make to greater understanding between the United States and Mongolia, and the likelihood of the applicant performing successfully in a U.S. Academic setting. The number of grants awarded each year depends on the level of available funds. In recent years, the number of new students funded each year has ranged from three to six. The Fulbright Foreign Student Program is announced through main daily newspapers
as “Unuudur and “Udriin Sonin” around April 15th of each year.
To qualify, applicants must meet following basic requirements:
- Be a Mongolian citizen, currently living in Mongolia
- Hold a first university degree (B.A. or equivalent)
- Have a fluent English (minimum IBT score of 80, Institutional TOEFL score of 550)
- Be able for a personal interview with the Fulbright Selection panel
The Program supports study in most fields of social sciences and humanities, including:

Timelines:
April – June: Scholarship is announced through media and U.S. Embassy website
June - July: Applications received by Embassy Public Affairs Section; Technical screening & prescreening of applications
August: Fulbright selection panel interview
September- October: Finalists take IBT & GRE tests & prepare application for submission to US universities
November: Submission of application to U.S Universities
May: University placements are announced
June: Predeparture orientation
July – August: Departure
