USA: Namibia Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program

Overview

The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program brings accomplished professionals to the United States at a midpoint in their careers for a year of non-degree study and related professional experiences. Fellows are selected based on their potential for national leadership and commitment to public service in either the public or private sector. Fellowships are offered in the following fields:

Agricultural Development, Agricultural Economics, Communications/Journalism, Drug Abuse Education, Treatment and Prevention, Economic Development, Education, Finance and Banking, HIV/AIDS Policy and Prevention, Human Resource Management, Law and Human Rights, Natural Resources and Environmental Management, Public Health Policy and Management, Public Policy Analysis and Public Administration, Teaching of English as a Foreign Language, Technology Policy and Management, Urban and Regional Planning


The program combines graduate level course work at prestigious American universities with professional internships at leading American institution, with the objective of developing leadership skills to contribute to Namibia’s national development. The fellowship covers travel costs, tuition, medical insurance, monthly maintenance and educational materials. The program does not provide financial support for accompanying dependents.

Selection Criteria:

¨ Fluent in English and be prepared to take the TOEFL test.
¨ Candidate needs institutional backing.
¨ Professional qualifications: At least five years of progressive professional
experience in your field.
¨ Academic background: Minimum requirement is a bachelor’s degree (4 years).
¨ Demonstrate leadership ability in positions of significant responsibility and
reflect a commitment to public service.


Application instructions:

Preliminary application forms can be obtained in October of each year from the American Cultural Center, Third Floor, Sanlam Centre, Independence Avenue in Windhoek, or contavt Mr. George Beaukes at beukesgm@state.gov / tel: 229801 ext. 223 / fax: 232476.

¨ Applicants must submit certified university transcripts.

¨ Applicants must submit reference letters.

¨ Applicants must submit a Personal Information Form.

¨ All forms must be typewritten or computer generated.

¨ Completed forms must be delivered to the U.S. Embassy, 14 Lossen Str.,
Ausspanplatz, Windhoek.


A committee will screen applications and only short-listed candidates will be called for personal interviews.
