Overview
An opportunity is currently available for a post-doctoral research trainee to join the Cognitive Neuroscience of Communication and Hearing Laboratory at Queen's University, Canada, led by Dr Ingrid Johnsrude. The post is for two years initially with the possibility of an extension.
The research focus of the lab is communication in challenging listening environments. Current projects use a variety of behavioural (psychophysical and neuropsychological) and functional imaging methods to study speech production, hearing, auditory perceptual organization and speech comprehension, in neurologically normal young and older people. The lab is a vibrant and multidisciplinary environment, and includes people with backgrounds in psychology, neuroscience, computer science and engineering. The successful applicant will assume a leadership role within the lab, participate actively in ongoing activities, and will be encouraged to develop their own research program.
Kingston is a small city at the junction of Lake Ontario, the Rideau Canal, and the St Lawrence River, near the Thousand Islands. It has a rich architectural and military heritage, and the Rideau Canal and Kingston Fortifications are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Kingston is valued by its inhabitants for its excellent quality of life, and Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, and Syracuse, New York are within easy reach.
Eligible candidates
Successful candidates will have a PhD in psychology, neuroscience, or a related discipline. Expertise in functional magnetic resonance imaging, signal processing, psychoacoustics, neuropsychology, auditory neuroscience, cognitive psychology and/or perceptual psychology is desirable but not essential.

Amount awarded
Salary is dependent on experience but will be at least $36,750 per year, plus benefits.
