Denmark: PhD fellowships in nanomedicine at The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Copenhagen

Overview

The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Copenhagen is pleased to announce two PhD fellowships in Nanomedicine within the Nanomedicine Research Group starting from 1st September 2010 or as soon as possible thereafter. Applications are invited for the three-year fellowships from graduates that hold or expect to hold a degree in a field relevant to the following projects:

1. Gene-Medicines (the interface of cell biology, experimental therapeutics and materials nanoengineering)
Main supervisor: Professor Moein Moghimi, Department of Pharmaceutics and Analytical Chemistry, phone +45 3533 6528 (email: momo(at)farma.ku.dk).

The project is financed by the Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation, the Danish Council for Independent Research Technology and Production Sciences.

The successful candidate will participate in an extensive on-going integrated research programme within the Nanomedicine Group that maps uptake, intracellular tracking, efficacy and cytotoxicity of novel nanoengineered vectors based on synthetic polymers at single cell and molecular level for safe controlled nucleic acid delivery, release and therapy.

2. Cellular and Molecular Toxicology of Nanomaterials
Main supervisor: Professor Moein Moghimi, Department of Pharmaceutics and Analytical Chemistry, phone +45 3533 6528 (email: momo(at)farma.ku.dk).

The project is financed by the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The project is linked to the Centre for Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology and Nanotoxicology (CPNN).

The successful candidate will be a member of the Nanomedicine Research Group and will study mechanisms of uptake, interaction with different organelles and cytotoxicity of a novel series of polymeric and particulate carriers, generated by CPNN for site-specific targeting and controlled-release of biologics, through “structure-activity” assessment, particularly at single cell level.

For both positions preference will be given to applicants with a background in cell and molecular biology or a closely related discipline. Previous experience in areas such as apoptosis, mitochondrial biology and/or advanced microscopy is advantageous. A proven ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team environment is considered essential as well as proficient verbal and written communications skills in English.

The Nanomedicine Research Group is an interdisciplinary team and a member of CPNN, and well equipped with state-of-the art particle characterization and bionanotechnology tools as well as advanced microscopy for real-time tracking and single-cell studies.

The PhD fellowships are to be completed in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the PhD Programme at the Universities (PhD order) from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and the Regulations and Guidelines for the Awarding of the PhD Degree by the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The terms of employment are stated in the agreement between The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations and the Ministry of Finance.
As an equal opportunity employer, the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences invites applications from all interested candidates regardless of gender, age, ethnic origin or religion.

For further information, applicants may contact the main supervisor.
