Overview
Institute of Transcultural Health Studies at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) offers a Bursary to support a PhD related to the "Brain, Mind and Healing" program of the Samueli Institute (Samueli-Rockefeller Fellowship).
Background information:
The student will be expected to choose a topic within these two research areas:
•Clinically applied research within mindfulness (development, implementation and evaluation of an applied program to further promote mindfulness in the school environment) or
•Development of life style program for prevention of dementia (nutrition, physical activity, culture of consciousness, avoidance of toxins)
The student will be working closely within a small, motivated and competent team of innovatively thinking researchers with individual supervision and cooperation with the MA Complementary Medicine, Cultural Science, and Alternative Medicine.
Candidates will be highly motivated, capable of working independently with creative problem solving skills, and good team players. Excellent proficiency in methods of evaluation and clinical research is essential or the willingness to quickly acquire these skills independently.
Very good knowledge of English is of advantage.
For research area 'mindfulness': personal experience of regular meditation with regular practice
For research area 'prevention of dementia': good knowledge of neuropsychology and interest in nutrition
Academic requirements:
A First class or 2.1 honours degree (MSc, MA, or equivalent) in a scientific discipline related to Health Sciences (Medicine, Psychology, etc.).
Funding and Eligibility:
The bursary is available to UK/EU students. 20,000 €/year is limited to one year with option to extend by 2 years.
