Overview
The PhD scholarship scheme of the Alzheimer's Research Trust (ART) provides funds over a 3-year period including a stipend (with London weighting); full PhD tuition fees (at the Home/EU rate); and a contribution towards research and travel costs.
Applications will be considered from individual or joint supervisors based in any appropriate UK academic/research institution. Supervisors will normally be expected to hold tenured or tenure-track appointments. The ART recognises that it may not be possible to identify the student until after the award has been made. However, the final confirmation of an award is dependent on approval, by the Scientific Advisory Board, of the student who will undertake the project. The confirmation will require evidence that the student is of high calibre and strongly motivated.
Although it is anticipated that the students recruited for this scholarship will begin their studies at the start of the 2008/09 academic year, we can be flexible with respect to start dates.
The ART's objective is to fund research which will further the understanding of the basic disease process in Alzheimer's and related dementias, or is directed to early detection, identifying risk factors, preventive measures, or offers progress towards effective treatments.
If the project requires ethical approval and/or Home Office licences, the award is dependent upon the requisite approvals being granted.
