Norway: PhD Fellowship or Post Doctoral position on Integrated Computer Aided Design and Analysis, The Norwegian University of Science and Technology

Overview

ICADA, a Knowledge-building Project with User Involvement (KMB) co-sponsored by the Research Council in Norway (NFR), is a collaboration between SINTEF ICT, Department of Applied mathematics, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Department of Mathematical Sciences and Department of Structural Engineering and the industrial partners, Det Norske Veritas (DNV), Ceetron ASA and Statoil. International leading experts in the field of computational geometry and mechanics are collaborating with the project partners (i.e. Prof. Thomas J.R. Hughes, University of Texas at Austin, USA).

The main objective of the ICADA project is to build competence in Norway for taking advantages of Integrated Computer Aided Design and Analysis based on a coherent spline representation for geometry and analysis.

A PhD fellowship or post doctor position for 3 years in the field of Visualisation of Isogeometric Finite Element Analyses is now open at Department of Mathematical Sciences, Faculty of Information technology, Mathematics and Electrical Engineering, The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).

Many professors and researchers are already engaged in the ICADA project. The position will be part of the ongoing research activities in the project, and will include development and implementation of prototype software for visualisation of finite element analysis applied to structural and marine engineering.

Target candidates

We seek highly motivated individuals with good analytical and communication skills holding a Master and/or PhD degree in numerical mathematics, computer science or computational mechanics with relevant background in finite element method and/or spline theory and scientific visualisation. The PhD fellowship and Post doctoral position has a period of three years and starts as soon as possible.

Further information about this position can be obtained from
Associate Professor Trond Kvamsdal (Trond.Kvamsdal@math.ntnu.no).

Salaries

PhD candidates and post doctors are remunerated according to code 1017 and 1352, corresponding to entry salary level 48-51 and 57-76 on the Norwegian State salary, respectively. Other information

Both position as PhD research fellowships and Post doctor period engagement are 3 years, without duties. A master degree is requisite for application for PhD fellowships.

The appointment of the PhD will be made according to Norwegian guidelines for universities and university colleges. Applicants for a PhD position are obliged to engage on an organized research programme, and appointment requires approval of the applicant’s plan for PhD study.
