UK: Marie Curie Research Fellow for Postdoctoral Position, University of Dundee

Overview

MEDI-LASE is a joint research programme capitalising on the knowledge and expertise of the partners through exchanges of researchers and transfers of knowledge between research centers at the University of Dundee and two SME companies with expertise in different aspects of photonics based diagnosis. A manufacturer and developer of state-of-the-art medical diagnostics equipment ASKION GmbH and a developer of integrated diagnostic laser systems SPE LAZMA. The aims of the project are to overcome scientific and technical challenges to the realisation and adoption of a unique multifunctional non-invasive laser diagnostic system.

Program Description

A two year postdoctoral research fellowships have become available in an international collaborative European project entitled MEDI-LASE: Multifunctional MEdical DIagnostic LASEr. This research will be undertaken in:

• The Photonics & Nanoscience Group, in the School of Engineering, Physics and Mathematics in the University of Dundee, Dundee, UK
o Fellow 1 – Experienced Researcher with 4-10 years experience in biophotonics and clinical research starting in August, 2010.
o Fellow 2 – Experienced Researcher with 4-10 years experience in laser physics and biophotonics starting in July, 2011.
• ASKION GmbH, Gera, Germany
o Fellow 3 – Experienced Researcher with 4-10 years experience in biophotonics starting in November, 2010.
• SPE “LAZMA” Ltd, Moscow, Russia
o Fellow 4 – Experienced Researcher with 4-10 years experience in tissue phantoms development starting in November, 2010.

As an essential requirement the applicants should have a PhD with at least 4 years research experience, and their first degree should be in Medical Sciences or Physics.

This is a full-time fixed-term contract for 2 years commencing as per the dates above.

The researchers would be Marie Curie Fellows funded by a grant under the European FP7 program. As a requirement of the grant these positions are open only to researchers not residing or having their main activity in the country of the beneficiary home organisation for more than 12 months in the last 3 years before recruitment. Candidates holding more than one nationality can be hosted by a beneficiary located in the county of their nationality as long as they have not resided there during the last 5 years.
