UK: PhD Studentships at Open University Business School and Department of Design, Development, Environment and Materials

Overview

The Open University Business School and the Department of Design, Development, Environment and Materials have available two PhD studentships that are linked to their joint participation in the Milton Keynes Light Electric Vehicles Infrastructure (ELVIS) Project. The studentships are funded by the Plugged in Places programme and Banco Santander S.A. The PhD scholarships would be based at the Open University Business School, Milton Keynes, United Kingdom, in its ESRC recognised Research Degrees Programme.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work with the project managers and consumer specialists associated with the ELVIS project as well being supervised by transport policy and social marketing experts in the Open University.

The first studentship will particular focus on Social Marketing and public engagement methods for electric vehicle initiatives. The support of integration with other transport markets and market segmentation may all be explored in this project. The second studentship, sponsored by Banco Santander S.A., will address how different leasing models influence the consumer uptake of electric vehicles in sustainable ways.

Amount awarded

The successful applicants will be eligible for funding to cover fees, a research training support grant, plus a yearly living allowance (c. £14,000 for 2010/11). Funding is available for three years.


Eligible candidates

You should have a good honours degree or equivalent in a relevant subject and demonstrable training (equivalent to an MRes) in research methods. Although a research proposal is not required for this studentship, applicants should be able to demonstrate a strong interest in one of managerial finance, social marketing, project management or business analysis.
