Overview
The Centre for Research & Development (Faculty of Arts) at the University of Brighton, in collaboration with the V&A Museum, invites applications for a fully-funded studentship under the AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Award Scheme.
The aim of this research is to examine the role of a key national museum in developing creative learning for HE Art and practice-based Design students through university partnerships. It will do this by examining the interface of museum-university partnerships through the V&A museum and its wider network of university partnerships as a form of collaborative analysis.
The project will be concerned with identifying practical and strategic opportunities for advancing such collaboration, whilst contributing to the V & A’s new learning and cultural strategy. The intention therefore is to develop an in-depth understanding of the nature of convergence and divergence in policies, strategies and practice between universities and museums. The project may take the form of a comparative analysis which the student may wish to explore with other national museums and their university partners/alliances.
The research will be supervised by Steven Miles, Professor of Urban Studies and Director of Postgraduate Studies at the University of Brighton and Morna Hinton, Head of Learning Services at the V&A.
Amount awarded
The studentship is worth £14,090 per annum plus fees under the AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Award Scheme. The V&A will provide the candidate with an additional maintenance allowance of £1,000. Awards are for 3 years full-time or part-time pro-rata. All applicants must meet the AHRC’s criteria for doctoral study and its requirements for UK/EU residence.
Closing date: Thursday 10 June 2010
