Overview
The Centre for Research & Development (Faculty of Arts) at the University of Brighton, in collaboration with the Victoria & Albert Museum, invites applications for a fully-funded studentship under the AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Award Scheme.
The aim of this research project is to bring together the specialist design historical expertise and resources of the University of Brighton with those of the V&A in order to examine the development, purpose and impact of circulating collections at the V&A, set within the wider context of the collection, display, promotion and reception of contemporary design, as evidenced through analysis of UK exhibitions and networks from 1945 to the present. The project is closely allied to Designing Britain 1948-2010, the V&A’s main exhibition for 2012.
The research will be supervised by Professor Jonathan Woodham, Director of the Centre for Research & Development (Faculty of Arts) at the University of Brighton, and Professor Christopher Breward, Head of the Research Department at the V&A and Co-curator of Designing Britain 1948-2010.
Amount awarded
The studentship is worth £14,090 per annum plus fees under the AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Award Scheme. The V&A will provide the candidate with an additional maintenance allowance of £1,000. The award is for 3 years full time or part-time pro-rata. All applicants must meet the AHRC’s criteria for doctoral study and its requirements for UK/EU residence.
Closing date: Thursday 10 June 2010
