POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP 2010-2011 - COUNSELING AND PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES California State Polytechnic University, Pomona Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) is pleased to offer a Postdoctoral Fellowship for the academic year 2010-2011.
The fellowship is a 10-month, full-time (40 hours/week) position with a start date in early September. Salary is $32,000 plus benefits. Reflective of these values, the diverse staff of psychologists, therapists and interns at CAPS provides a variety of mental health, psycho-educational and outreach services to the university community. CAPS's mission is to advance student success by promoting community wellness, removing psychological barriers, facilitating self-awareness, and cultivating the personal strengths of Cal Poly Pomona students.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
This position affords the postdoctoral fellow opportunities to further develop their counseling, assessment and outreach presentation skills in a collaborative, stimulating, university counseling center atmosphere that utilizes integrative and holistic therapeutic models in breaking down barriers to students' success. Under the supervision of licensed psychologists, the post-doctoral fellow will provide individual, couples, and group therapy within brief therapy contexts, conduct intake evaluations, provide crisis intervention, and make referrals to the community, as well as further their skills in providing outreach programs and consultation to the campus community. The fellow will attend weekly case consultation and treatment planning/referral meetings with senior staff/supervisors for disposition and peer supervision as well as bi-monthly staff meetings. There are opportunities to present formal case presentations to staff therapists and pre-doctoral interns and to provide clinical training seminars to pre-doctoral level students. The fellow will receive weekly individual supervision from a licensed psychologist commensurate with California state Board of Psychology licensure requirements for postdoctoral hours.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS DURING TRAINING YEAR
Clinical Duties (approximately 65%).
1. Provide brief and time-effective individual, couples, and group therapy (including psychoeducation) to university students presenting with a broad range of developmental issues and clinical symptoms.
2. Provide intake evaluations and crisis intervention within the scope of practice delineated by primary clinical supervisor, and training coordinator.
3. Provide consultation and outreach/educational programming to the university community within the range of activity delineated by primary supervisor, and training coordinator.
Administrative Duties and Supervision (approximately 35%).
1. Maintain clinical records in accordance with legal and ethical standards.
2. Participate in clinical staff meetings and committee work as needed.
3. Receive and maintain training and supervision requirements on a weekly basis consistent with licensure laws and regulations of the Board of Psychology within the State of California.
4. Provide clinical training seminars to pre-doctoral interns on specialized topics of clinical interest.
QUALIFICATIONS OF CANDIDATES: (Required)
*Candidates must have completed an APA approved doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology that has posted by September 10, 2010, and have completed a psychology pre-doctoral internship in a clinical or counseling setting. *Post-doctoral fellowship candidates should be knowledgeable of college student development, demonstrate interest in working with a diverse, multicultural university population. (Preferred) *Completion of an APPIC/APA level accredited, pre-doctoral internship in a university counseling center, and experience with crisis assessment and intervention are also highly desirable.
STIPEND AND BENEFITS:
The salary is $32,000 for the 10-month appointment. University benefits include health, vision, and dental insurance, 12 paid holidays, and paid sick days. The post doctoral fellow will conduct services on the same premises with CAPS senior supervising staff and have access to counseling offices that are equipped with computer (electronic scheduling/documentation, campus email, Internet), telephone and voicemail.
