Overview
Uppsala University hereby declares the following position to be open for application:
Researcher
at the Ångström laboratory, Department of Physics and Astronomy, sub department of High-Energy Physics, Accelerator Physics group, to be filled soon for a period of two years.
Within the accelerator-physics group we perform research towards future accelerators, in particular the the Compact LInear Collider CLIC for which Uppsala University built the Two-beam Test Stand at the CLIC Test Facility CTF3 at CERN in Geneva. Within the framework of a Grant from the Swedish Research Council we will expand our joint activities with other Scandinavian partners within the NorduCLIC collaboration.
The researcher will work on one of the fundamental limitations for future linear colliders: the breakdown in radio-frequency accelerating structures. The research work will focus on designing and implementing a diagnostic system for the 12 GHz standalone test stand at CERN to detect secondary signals from radio-frequency driven discharges such as electrons, ions, and gas bursts. Furthermore, the candidate will participate in the experiments and data analysis of discharges in accelerating structures for future accelerators that are being performed at the two-beam test stand at CERN. The candidate is expected to spend a significant part of the time in Geneva at CERN.
Target candidates
We are looking for an excellent, strongly motivated candidate with a keen interest in experimental methods and the ability to design instrumentation. Background in material- or accelerator-physics is considered a bonus. Good communicational skills, both orally and in written English are desirable as well as the capability to work both independently and in a team.
Local guidelines for the salary class are applicable.
Application requirements
Your application should include a short description of research interests and relevant experiences, curriculum vitae, copy of relevant diplomas, doctoral thesis or an outline of the thesis, and other relevant information you wish to include. Candidates are asked to provide names of reference persons or to include letters of recommendation.
