Overview
Building Energy Use And Behaviour - ReVISIONS Project On Sustainable City Regions
University of Cambridge - The Martin Centre, Department of Architecture
The studentship will cover tuition fees and a tax-free maintenance stipend for three years (stipend currently 13,290 pa).
Applications are invited for an EPSRC-funded PhD studentship to research building energy use, user behaviour, and urban form. This can range from building to neighbourhood scale and there will be an opportunity to interface with ReVISIONS project research (see below) on energy supply, transport, water and waste. We can provide guidance on a suitable topic providing that an applicant can demonstrate original thinking and motivation to research this subject area. The student will be supervised by Professor Koen Steemers or by Dr Tony Hargreaves, depending on the research topic.
The ReVISIONS project is investigating whether spatial planning policies in conjunction with 'green' infrastructure technologies and regulations can make city regions more sustainable.
This project is led by the Martin Centre at the University of Cambridge and will produce guidance for decision makers on the interrelationships between regional spatial planning, infrastructure design and economic competitiveness. This is a multi-disciplinary project involving six universities.
For further information see, www.regionalvisions.ac.uk.
Applicants should have, or expect to be awarded, a good first degree or master's degree.
The studentship will cover tuition fees and a tax-free maintenance stipend of 13,290 per annum (for three years).
Candidates must meet the EPSRC funding eligibility requirements (see: http://www.epsrc.ac.uk/PostgraduateTraining/StudentEligibility.htm).
Applications should include a covering letter and a full CV (including contact details for at least two academic referees plus marks/grades achieved on current courses) and a completed form CHRIS/6 Parts I and III (downloadable from http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/offices/hr/forms/chris6/).
The covering letter should outline the general subject area(s) that you are interested in researching, and a clear statement of your eligibility for this EPSRC funded award. It should be sent to Samantha Archetti, ReVISIONS Studentship, Department of Architecture, 1-5 Scroope Terrace, Cambridge CB2 1PX, UK, email: sma52@cam.ac.uk (emailed applications are acceptable).
