Applications are invited for two research studentships (DPhil) for an EPSRC/Dstl funded investigation into "Multiscale Methodology for Enhanced Damage Tolerance of composite Materials in Submarine Environment subject to Underwater Explosion".
Candidates should have at least an upper second class degree in Engineering, Physics, Materials or Mathematics as well as an explicitly expressed affinity to solid mechanics and materials engineering. The candidates are expected to have excellent computing skills and preferably some experience with computer aided design software and programming languages (FORTRAN and C). The studentship will be for 42 months from October 2010. The successful candidates will be registered for a higher degree at an Oxford college, leading to a doctorate. This studentship covers fees at the Home/EU rate and provides the standard living allowance.
