Overview

The Humanities Research Centre was established in 1972 as a national and international centre for excellence in the Humanities and a catalyst for innovative Humanities scholarship and research within the Australian National University. The HRC interprets the "Humanities" generously, recognising that new methods of theoretical enquiry have done much to break down the traditional distinction between the humanities and the interpretive social sciences; recognising, too, the importance of establishing dialogue between the humanities and the natural and technological sciences, and the creative arts. The Centre encourages interdisciplinary and comparative work, and seeks to take a provocative as well as supportive role in relation to existing humanities studies in Australia. It aims to give special attention to topics and disciplines which stand in need of particular stimulus in Australia. • Visiting Fellow (without grant). Academic staff from the Australian National University, other universities and cultural institutions may apply to use the facilities at the HRC and contribute to its intellectual life during their periods of research leave (e.g. sabbatical). Microsoft is offering four different types of technical scholarships for the 2011-2012 academic year to current undergraduate students: General Scholarships, Women's Scholarships, Minority Scholarships, and Scholarships for Students with Disabilities.

Requirements

If you’re interested in applying for the 2011-2012 academic year scholarships, make sure you postmark your application by February 1, 2011 in order for your application to be considered. Microsoft selects final candidates based on the following criteria:

•Eligibility
•Quality of application
•Displayed interest in the software industry
•Commitment to leadership
•Financial need

We will be notifying all rewarded scholarship recipients on March 18, 2011. We will strive to contact all applicants about their status, however please note that due to the high number of scholarship applicants, we may only be able to contact candidates who were awarded scholarships.

Diversity at Microsoft

We encourage student populations currently underrepresented in the field of computer science to pursue technical degrees. All candidates who meet the criteria for eligibility described below may certainly apply, while we do award a large majority of our student scholarships to women, minorities, and the disabled. Minority applicants must belong to one of the following groups underrepresented in the software field: African-American, Hispanic, or Native American.

Provisions

As a recipient of one of our scholarships, you’ll enjoy the benefits for one academic year. You may receive either a full or partial scholarship for the 2011-2012 academic year. Full tuition scholarships will cover tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year as posted by the financial aid office at your college or university. Microsoft will make payments to the designated school, and they’re not transferable to other academic institutions. You may use the funds for tuition only—not for other costs listed on your bursar bill, such as room and board.

You’ll also need to apply for a summer internship and if offered an internship, you must complete the salaried summer internship of 12 weeks or more at Microsoft Corporation in Redmond, Washington. (Microsoft reserves the right not to offer an internship position to the scholarship winner if an appropriate match cannot be found.)

Israel: Fulbright Post-Doctoral Fellowships in the U.S

Overview

The United States-Israel Educational Foundation (USIEF) plans to award ten grants to American post-doctoral scholars who are about to begin a program of research at Israeli institutions of higher education which will commence during the 2012/2013 academic year. The total length of the proposed program of work in Israel must be at least two academic years (20 months net in Israel).

The Fulbright award totals $40,000, $20,000 per academic year. Fulbright funding supplements basic post-doctoral stipends provided by Israeli host institutions.

This program is open to post-doctoral researchers in all academic disciplines.

USIEF awards are granted on the basis of academic excellence, the leadership promise of the applicant, and the potential of the proposed visit to both advance knowledge and enhance mutual understanding between the peoples of the U.S. and Israel.

The Foundation gives preference to applicants who have not had significant prior professional experience in Israel.

Knowledge of Hebrew is helpful but not required, except as necessary for the conduct of proposed research projects.

Post-doctoral fellows must be hosted by an accredited Israeli institution of higher education. For the complete list of accredited institutions, click here.

Each candidate should try to arrange his/her institutional affiliations in Israel independently, including development of the program of work for the proposed visit, through contacts with possible host institutions. If assistance is required, USIEF will attempt to help candidates to identify suitable host institutions.

Candidates should take into account that, according to USIEF policy, host institutions will be required to provide to the program fellows a grant no smaller than their own usual basic post-doctoral award, in addition to USIEF’s grant. Thus, candidates should submit applications for post-doctoral stipends to potential host institutions, in parallel to presentation of their candidacy for Fulbright fellowships. Host institution awards vary from university to university. The Fulbright award in every case will be $40,000 - $20,000 per academic year, for two academic years (20 months net in Israel).

A letter from an Israeli researcher, expressing at least preliminary interest in hosting the candidate, must be included among the materials submitted to the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) by the August 1 application deadline. A formal hosting commitment, including the commitment to provide financial support, must be received by USIEF from the host institution in November 2011 in order for a candidate to be evaluated in the final stage of the grant allocation process. Please quote scholarization as your reference when applying for this scholarship.

Grant Benefits

USIEF stipend of $40,000 ($20,000 per academic year for two years), payable in dollars. In addition, each grantee will receive from his/her host institution a grant no smaller than its own basic post-doctoral award.

Limited health insurance for the grantee only
Orientation meeting in Israel and other grantee events during the course of the academic year

Eligibility Criteria

- Applicants must be U.S. citizens; permanent resident status is not sufficient.
Candidates must be planning to begin a period of post-doctoral research at an accredited institution of higher education in Israel during the course of the 2012/2013 academic year. Individuals who have already begun or who plan to begin post-doctoral research in Israel before October 2012 are not eligible to apply for Fulbright Post-doctoral Fellowships.
- Candidates must be planning to conduct post-doctoral research in Israel for a period of at least two academic years (20 months net).
- Candidates who have received a Fulbright Student Fellowship are not eligible to begin a visit to Israel as Post-Doctoral Fellows until five years have passed from the conclusion of their stay abroad as Student Fellows. See the regulations regarding repeat fellowships in the Fellowships section above. Further information may be found on the CIES website.
- Holders of a tenure-track position are ineligible.
-Candidates must be in good health. All applicants selected for a Fulbright grant are required to submit a Medical History and Examination Report before their grants can be activated.
- Prior to activation of grants awarded, candidates selected must give proof of completion of all requirements for receipt of the doctoral degree.
- A formal hosting commitment, including a commitment to provide financial support, must be received by USIEF in November 2010 from an eligible institution in order for a candidate to be evaluated in the final stage of the grant allocation process.
- Prior conviction or current indictment for a felony may result in disqualification.

USA: VA Boston Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship

Overview

The postdoctoral training program is designed to be consistent with the American Psychological Association’s guidelines for six general competency areas to be addressed during Fellowship training. These training objectives provide the basis for Fellows’ evaluation of their initial training needs and progress throughout the year, as well as the supervisors’ evaluations of each Fellow’s progress. This general outline of learning objectives is adapted to the Fellow’s particular learning goals during formulation of a training plan at the beginning of the Fellowship year. Below are the six general competency areas:

1. Theories and Effective Methods of Psychological Assessment, Diagnosis, and Interventions
2. Consultation, Program Evaluation, Supervision, and/or Teaching
3. Strategies of Scholarly Inquiry
4. Organization, Management, and Administration Issues Pertinent to Psychological Service Delivery and Practice, Training, and Research
5. Professional Conduct; Ethics and Law; and Other Standards for Providers of Psychological Services
6. Issues of Cultural and Individual Diversity that are Relevant to All of the Above

The structure of the VA Boston Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship Program follows a multiple practice format as defined by APA’s Policy Statements and Implementing Regulations. The Fellowship Program is organized into two separate areas:

1. the substantive traditional practice area of Clinical Psychology, and
2. the specialty practice area of Clinical Neuropsychology.

Within the Clinical Psychology Training Program, we offer training in six areas of emphasis (“tracks”):

1. Geropsychology
2. General Mental Health
3. Medical Psychology
4. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
5. Returning Veterans and Substance Use
6. Substance Abuse.

Both Training Programs exist within the overarching structure of the Fellowship Program and are independently accredited by APA. Our next accreditation site visit will be in 2015.

During the 2011-2012 training year, the VA Boston Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship Program anticipates it will provide training for nine full-time Fellows in the traditional practice of Clinical Psychology. We will also provide funding for one full-time Fellow in Clinical Neuropsychology – Polytrauma Emphasis.
