Overview
The overall goal of this project which is funded by Swedish Strategic Foundation for Research, Swedish Research Council and Vinnova is to develop a new generation of biocompatible replacements for blood vessels. Biosynthetic Blood Vessels, BBV, are prepared by innovative technology for production of tubes using controlled fermentation of the nano-cellulose producing bacteria Gluconacetobacter xylinus. Within this program biomaterial scientists work together with biotechnology experts, physicists, chemists, cell biologists, molecular biologists and cardiovascular surgeons. It is a classic example of intra disciplinary research.
