Post Doc in Communication Systems at Chalmers University of Technology

Overview

At the Department of Signals and Systems, we conduct world-leading research in biomedical engineering, antennas and signal processing, control, automation and mechatronics, and communication systems. Our research deals to a large extent with the modeling and development of efficient systems for extracting and processing information.

Division of Communication Systems and Information Theory
The research at the Division is focused on methods and algorithms for digital communication systems. We study systems such as the next generation wireless cellular communication systems, vehicular communication to enable certain important vehicular traffic safety applications, fibre-optic communication systems, and hardware-constrained communications. Our research is diverse in nature and includes fundamental and application-driven as well as disciplinary and multidisciplinary projects. We are heavily involved in the master program Communication Engineering. The Division employs about 30 persons, a number that will increase in the near future, as we have been successful in attracting research grants. Chalmers University of Technology is located in Gothenburg on the scenic west coast of Sweden. It is among the top research schools in Europe. The research environment is international and candidates of any nationality are welcome to apply.

Job description

The research topic is broadly about to improve the ubiquitous user experience of future cellular mobile radio communications systems. The research will be mainly carried out within the research project “Advanced radio interface technologies for 4G systems (ARTIST4G)” http://www.chalmers.se/s2/EN/research/divisions/communication-systems/research-projects/advanced-radio-interface, in close cooperation with our Swedish and European ARTIST4G project partners. In addition, participation within our ongoing research projects on future mobile wireless systems, ITU IMT-Advanced and Beyond, is also expected

The main research objective is to invent novel techniques for multi-cellular systems employing base station cooperation and relaying.

Required qualifications
You must have very good knowledge about wireless communications and a recent Ph.D. degree in a subject related to wireless communications, preferably with experience of distributed multi-antenna systems. Knowledge in coordinated beamforming and scheduling, relaying, joint multipoint transmission and reception, user scheduling and cross-layer design are advantageous, as well as interest in Information theory and Bayesian methods.

Furthermore, an interest in interdisciplinary work with researchers and engineers from other fields is essential, as are skills in simulation techniques and mathematical analysis. You should have excellent command of spoken and written English and have good collaborative skills. Teaching experience is an advantage.

About the Post Doc position

The Post Doc position is an appointment that offers an opportunity to qualify for further research positions within academia or industry. The appointment is for 1+1 years of full-time employment, with a monthly salary paid. Majority of your working time is devoted to your own research. Included in your work is also to take part in supervision of Ph.D. students and MSc thesis students. Teaching of undergraduate students may also be included to a small extent. You will attend international conferences and meetings, where you will present your own work and establish useful contacts with other researchers. The position can commence immediately.
