PhD Position in Hybrid Electric Vehicle System, Sweden

Overview

At the Department of Signals and Systems, we conduct world-leading research in biomedical engineering, antennas and signal processing, control, automation and mechatronics, and communication systems. Our research deals to a large extent with the modeling and development of efficient systems for extracting and processing information. The position is with the Automatic Control group.

Job description

In response to the needs of reducing the environmental impact of road transportation, applicants are invited to contribute within the area of electric propulsion and hybrid vehicles, one of the focus areas of Chalmers Energy Initiative (CEI). The aim of this PhD position is to further strengthen our activities concerning optimal design, operation and control of hybrid electric and purely electric powertrains. We cooperate with other researchers within CEI and the Swedish Hybrid Vehicle Center, as well as with industry.

As an applicant, you should have an interest in applied research with a focus on modelling, control and optimisation techniques. As a PhD student, you also take part in the department’s undergraduate education.

Required qualifications

Applicants to this position must have a Master of Science degree in a related area from a recognized university. Good knowledge in control and related subjects is essential. You should have good analytical and communication (both oral and written) skills and ability to work independently as well as become an active team member. Excellent command of English language is needed.


As PhD positions also involve taking part in the undergraduate education, and teaching activities in the B.Sc. programs are conducted in Swedish (English in M.Sc. programs), Swedish language is an advantage.

As a Ph.D. student you are employed by Chalmers and will receive a salary according to current salary agreements. A maximum of 20% of your time will be devoted to other duties at the division, mainly teaching. The remaining time will be devoted to your own courses and research within the project and you are expected to obtain a Ph.D. within a maximum of 5 years.
