Erasmus Mundus Scholarships
Erasmus Mundus (EM) scholarships are EU funded scholarships to support Category A and Category B students to study selected MA programmes, including IMESS. For entry in 2010 there will be 18-20 EM scholarships.
Category A scholarships can be awarded to students who come from a country other than an eligible applicant country (EU member-states and EEA-EFTA states) and who are not residents nor have carried out their main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in one of these countries. N.B.: students holding a Category A scholarship may not spend their second year in Russia.
Category A applicants satisfying the Erasmus Mundus criteria (Category A) are eligible to apply for an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship of €24,000 per year (€48,000 in total). Scholarship holders must pay tuition fees to the IMESS consortium of €14,800 per year (€29,600 in total). These monies will be deducted from the scholarship and scholarship holders will receive a balance on a monthly basis. Recipients of Erasmus Mundus Scholarships (Category A), entering the IMESS programme in 2011, will be entitled to a partial fee waiver of €6,800 per year.
Category B scholarships can be awarded to any students who do not fulfil the Category A criteria defined above.
Category B applicants satisfying the Erasmus Mundus criteria (Category B) are eligible to apply for an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship of €10,000 per year (€20,000 in total). Scholarship holders must pay tuition fees to the IMESS consortium of €6,250 per year (€12,500 in total) if they are EU citizens or €14,800 per year (€29,600 in total) if they are non-EU citizens. These monies will be deducted from the scholarship and scholarship holders will receive a balance on a monthly basis. Recipients of Erasmus Mundus Scholarships (Category B), entering the IMESS programme in 2011, will be entitled to a partial fee waiver of €2,250 per year (for EU citizens) or €6,800 per year (for non-EU citizens).
NB: applicants must not have received their last university degree from either of the two countries in which they will study as part of the IMESS programme.
The scholarship therefore covers the fees, associated with attendance at two of Europe's leading universities, but does NOT cover all of the costs associated with attending the Programme. Rather, participants will need some additional source of funding to cover the full costs associated with accommodation, food, travel and books. For example, in year one (all students are in London) it is estimated that the average living costs for a single graduate student for an academic year are approximately €12,000. Living costs in year 2 vary.
Erasmus Mundus scholarship holders will also benefit from the insurance provided through the IMESS consortium. Students may wish to top up this insurance with a supplementary private policy.
The next Erasmus Mundus Scholarship application deadline for IMESS is 17 December 2010. UCL Registry must have received your full application by no later than this date. Please note that students can only apply to a maximum of three Erasmus Mundus Programmes in any one year.
