Fulbright New Zealand Travel Awards

Overview

Fulbright New Zealand Travel Awards are for New Zealand academics, artists or professionals to visit the US for 12 to 90 days in order to present their work to American audiences.

Travel Award exchanges must include at least one major presentation. Grantees are encouraged to maximise the impact of their award by supplementing their main proposed activity with others including additional public talks, collaboration with American colleagues, visits to sites of interest etc. Fulbright New Zealand Travel Awards are not intended for research trips.

Approximately twelve awards are offered each year.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must:

- have a suitable academic background (PhD completed or in progress), or equivalent artistic or professional training or experience
- be confirmed to make at least one major presentation in the US (poster presentations will not be funded) and to depart for the US at least eight weeks after the application closing date
- not have held another Fulbright award in the past two years, and otherwise comply with the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board's policy on Previous Fulbright Grants

Entitlement

Up to NZ$5,000 to assist with costs associated with a short-term visit to the US
Fulbright New Zealand aims to assist as many applicants as possible with their short term exchanges, so full grants of $5,000 are seldom awarded. Grants in recent years have averaged approximately $3,000. Grantees are expected to contribute to their own travel and secure additional sources of funding wherever possible.

Fulbright New Zealand Travel Awards are intended to contribute towards travel (international and domestic), accommodation and per diem expenses. They are not intended for the purchase of equipment or any other research costs.
