The XXV cycle of Research Doctorate courses has been instituted with the administrative seat in the University of Udine. The research doctorate courses last three years and they will become effective from the 1st January 2010.
The public competition has been announced for admission to the Research Doctorate courses represented in the annexes to this decree (annexes 1-20) of which constitute an integrative part.

The number of positions receiving a grant, indicated in the individual annexes, will be increased should further financing by either private or public bodies be made available after the publication of this call for applications. An increase in the number of grants will result in an increase in the total number of positions available.

The doctorate courses which have fewer than three candidates for admission after the exam procedures, will not be activated.
Art. 2
Admission requirements
Any person, of any age or citizenship (in accordance with the conditions provided for in art. 7) who possesses an Italian degree (in compliance with Ministerial Decree n. 509/1999) or Italian specialist degree (in accordance with Ministerial Decree n. 509/1999 and Decree n. 270/2004) indicated in annexes 1-20, or an equivalent academic title acquired abroad, may apply to participate in the exam.
If the foreign academic title has not been declared equivalent to an Italian degree, the Teaching Board for the Research Doctorate to which the candidate has applied for will decide on the equivalence exclusively for admission to the exam for the chosen Doctorate.
In this case the candidates shall also enclose the following documents:
the academic title translated and legalised by the Italian diplomatic or consular representatives in which the qualification was awarded;
a “Declaration of Worth” of the qualification compiled by same consular body.
Those who will obtain a degree (pre-existing ordinance) or second level degree (new-ordinance) within the date set for the first test of the exam for the Doctorate chosen (annexes 1-20) can participate in the admission exams. In this case access to the exam will be considered “conditional” and the candidate will be required to present the relative certificate or self certification within the day of the first test. Without this the application will be forfeited.
Anyone without the necessary requirements may be excluded by the University at any time.
Art. 3
Application for admission to the exam

The candidate must fill in an application form for each Research Doctorate course he/she desires to follow.
Within the 25th September 2009 candidates are obliged to transmit their application by computer, as described above, and within the 28th September 2009 forward the paper copy, undersigned according to one of the following procedures:

Art. 4
Restitution of academic titles and publications
The documents and publications relative to the selection procedure will be returned personally by hand to those candidates who have requested this or to a person specifically delegated by the candidate, after 180 days from the publication of the final lists and within the following 30 days. Publications presented in original copies and not collected within the 30 days indicated above will be kept at the Centri Interdipartimentali Bibliotecari in order to increase the prestige of the University Library. All the remaining documentation will be eliminated according to the law.
Art. 5
Judging Commission
The competitions Judging Commissions for admission to individual courses for a Doctorate in research are appointed by this present Rectorate Decree referred to in the Annexes 1-20. Each committee, at the first meeting appoints its own President, who must be a first level professor, or in the absence, a second level professor and the Secretary. The tasks of the Judging Commissions conclude with the drafting of a final list of the competition for admission in relation to the respective Doctorate research course and the compilation of the relative reports.
Art. 6
Admission exams
The exams, aimed at evaluating the candidates’ aptitude for scientific research, will take place in accordance with the procedures and dates indicated in annexes 1-20. Candidates will receive no summons at their home addresses.
The final mark, inclusive of the mark for evaluation of academic titles and the mark for the tests, will be expressed as a percentage (100/100).
If the evaluation of academic titles is envisaged, no more than 30 points (30/100) will be attributed to it.
Each commission will carefully consider the academic titles and pinpoint the evaluation criteria and before the start of the exams. The evaluation of the academic titles will take place after the written test and before the correction. Individual candidates will be informed of the results of the evaluation of their academic titles during the oral part of the exam.
Candidates with an overall mark of 70% or more on the tests, written and oral, will be considered eligible.
The final list, only for the eligible candidates, will be made by summing up the marks for the tests to the marks for the evaluation of academic titles, if envisaged.
The Judging Commission may provide separate tests where the doctorate courses are articulated in widely differing curricula, however there will only be one final result list of candidates.
The candidate will also have to demonstrate good knowledge of the foreign language indicated in annexes 1-20 during the oral part of the exam.
In order to sit the exam candidates will have to exhibit an identity document.
Art. 7
Places reserved for candidates resident abroad
Candidates who are resident abroad may also take part only on the basis of evaluation of academic titles, exclusively for the reserved places, if these are envisaged for the individual research doctorate (annexes 1- 20).
Limits to citizenship are posed only where the University recognises particular scientific needs.
These candidates should fill in the application form for the exam, indicating the selection procedures chosen, and attach the academic titles required.
The maximum marks ascribable to candidates will be expressed as a percentage. Candidates with a lower mark than 70/100 will not be considered eligible.
Should the reserved places not be assigned they will be added to the ordinary results list for the doctorate in question by previous opinion of Teaching Board.
Art. 8
Excess admission
The following may be admitted in excess without a grant and within the maximum number provided for in the annexes 1-20, if they are shown to be eligible at the end of the competitive exam and are not among the ‘winners’ (selected candidates):
researchers receiving grants as in L. 449/97, on the condition that the doctorate they are participating in concerns the same scientific area of research as that for which they received their grants;
researchers receiving a research grant, on the condition that the doctorate they are participating in concerns the same scientific area of research as that for which they receive their grant;
public employees who can benefit by instructions specified in art. 2 of the L. 476 of the 13 August 1984;
citizens resident abroad. Excess admission of citizens resident abroad is only provided for candidates who have opted for selection procedures as in art. 6.
Art. 9
Final lists
The final lists will be made public on the 23rd November 2009 exclusively through publication on the following Internet site: http://www.uniud.it/ricerca/finanziamenti/dottorato/Bandi_attivi
The list of those admitted in excess will also be published on the same site.
In the case of equal results, evaluation of the economic situation as defined by D.P.C.M. 30.04.97 and later modifications, will prevail.

Candidates will be admitted to the courses following the order defined by the final exam lists, until the number of places available has been filled. Where a candidate has been shown eligible for more than one course he/she must opt for only one doctorate course.

Replacements

Grants and Contributions
The grants, the number of which can be found in annexes 1-20, will be awarded following the order defined in each respective merit list formed by the Judging Commissions. The grant lasts three years and becomes effective from the 1st January 2010.
The gross annual amount of the grant is 13.638,47 Euro, subject to national insurance (INPS a gestione separata). The amount of the grant will be increased for possible periods of stay abroad by 50%.
The grant will be paid in monthly deferred payments.
Anyone who has used a grant for a doctorate course (even for one year only) may not request one a second time.
