PhD and Postdoc Position 2009 in Neurobiology at University of Copenhagen, Denmark

The newly established Pocock Group at BRIC, University of Copenhagen, is seeking a strong and highly motivated candidate for a PhD and postdoctoral fellowship in neurobiology.

The project

The aim of PhD project is to investigate the ability of the nervous system to respond to stress. In particluar, we study neuroplasticity that occurs in response to fluctuations in oxygen availability. The project involves a wide range of techniques in molecular biology, biochemistry and neuroanatomy.

Postdoctoral area of research: Projects in the lab focus on the influence of oxygen on neuronal development, neuronal circuitry and behavior. We are using the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans as a model system to achieve these goals.

PhD Fellowship in Neurobiology

The newly established Pocock Group at BRIC, University of Copenhagen, is seeking a strong and highly motivated candidate for a PhD fellowship in neurobiology.


The project

Qualifications

We are looking for a highly motivated, ambitious candidate with an MSc in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Medicine or equivalent. Experience in molecular biology and genetics are required, and interest in C. elegans and RNA biology is desirable. The ideal candidate will be a team player and have excellent communication skills.

Place of work

The employment is at BRIC, University of Copenhagen. BRIC is located close to the centre of Copenhagen, in the new Copenhagen Biocenter. We have attracttive research facilities in modern laboratories and offer excellent working conditions with exciting possibilities in a young, dynamic and international research environment.

Terms of salary and employment

The appointment is for 3 years and scheduled to start in 2010. The PhD study must be completed in accordance with the ministerial orders from the Ministry of Education on the PhD degree and the University?s rules on achieving the degree. The successful candidate will be enrolled at Faculty of Health Sciences and be part of BRIC?s research school MoMeD.

Salary, pension and terms of employment are in accordance with agree­ment between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State. Depending on seniority, the monthly salary begins around 24.100 DDK (3.200 Euro) plus pension.

Postdoctoral Postition in Neurobiology

A funded postdoctoral position is available in the newly established group of Associate Professor Roger Pocock at BRIC, University of Copenhagen. Research in the group is focused on the effect of oxygen on neuronal development and function.

Qualifications

Highly motivated, ambitious candidates with a PhD in Life Sciences are encouraged to apply. A strong background in molecular biology and genetics are required, and experience in C. elegans and RNA biology is desirable but not essential.

Terms of salary and employment

The appointment is for 3 years and scheduled to start in 2010. Salary, supplement, pension and terms of employment follow the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Academics Central Organization. Currently, the yearly postdoc salary begins around 50.000 Euro plus pension of ca. 8.500 Euro. Depending on qualifications, a higher salary may be negotiated. Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reduction, if they have not lived in Denmark the last 3 years.
