Project: The Role of O-GLcNAc in Phosphorylation-Dependent Signalling Pathways
Position Description:
A postdoc position is available immediately in the group of Daan van Aalten at the College of Life Sciences in Dundee, Scotland. You will be working on how the novel O-GlcNAc post-translational modification affects a range of cellular processes through regulation of classic phosphorylation-dependent signal transduction pathways. Possible projects, depending on the candidate’s interests, could be to study the role of O-GlcNAc in growth factor signalling, neuronal development, bacterial pathogenesis and transcription. A large number of tools, including cell lines, antibodies and novel inhibitors are already available.

You will be working in a highly international research group that operates across the disciplines of cell biology, enzymology, drug design, structural biology and synthetic chemistry. More information on the group can be found on http://www.lifesci.dundee.ac.uk/people/daan_van_aalten . Training, as required, will be provided in a well-equipped, well-funded and supportive environment enabling the successful candidate to extend skills and expertise. The College has excellent facilities for all aspects of research, including in-house and easily accessible services, such as cloning, proteomics, microscopy, DNA sequencing, oligo synthesis and preparation of growth media.
Position Eligibility:
This position is suited for a candidate with a recent PhD and a strong background in signal transduction/cell biology, with several first author publications in good scientific journals. The candidate must be able to work independently, and must be able to demonstrate an aspiration to move on to an independent faculty position after their postdoctoral work.
Position Salary:
The position is available immediately and is for 2-years with the possibility of another 3-year funded extension. The starting salary is a minimum of Grade 7, point 29 (£28,839).
