Project: Supporting Sustainable Careers in Orchestral Musicians through Occupational Health and Safety Initiatives

Scholarships Description:

Two scholarships are being offered by the Discipline of Biomedical Science at the University of Sydney, as part of a national ARC Linkage Project in collaboration with the Australia Council for the Arts and the eight premier state orchestras of Australia. The project, ‘Sound Practice: Supporting sustainable careers for orchestral musicians through occupational health and safety initiatives’, will profile the psychological and physical healthof professional orchestral musicians; identify injury risk factors and predictors of injury; and trial targeted interventions designed to better manage and prevent injury. The findings from this unique study will be used to facilitate the development of effective Occupational Health and Safety policies for Australian professional orchestral musicians.

Scholarships Requirements & Eligibility:
The successful applicants will have qualifications and experience in any of the following: physiotherapy; psychology; epidemiology and public health; occupational medicine or equivalent, and ideally hold a First Class Honours degree, a Masters Degree, or equivalent relevant experience.


Scholarship Value, Duration & Availability:
The value of each scholarship is AUD$26,669 (per annum), tenable for a period of three years for PhD candidates for full-time study only.
Applications are open to local and international students. The scholarship is for living expenses and does not cover any tuition fees payable by
international students.
