Spain: Post-doctoral Researcher in Rural Development – Modelling impact of CAP policy instruments on regional / local economy

Overview

The Agriculture and Life Sciences in the Economy Unit has a vacancy for a post-doctoral researcher to work on modelling the effects of Rural Development policy instruments in regional/local economies within the SUSTAG (sustainable agriculture) Action. This action is currently carrying out research on quantitative assessment of CAP impact on rural areas, both from the point of view of farm holdings and regional economy.

The successful candidate will participate in:

• conceptual work and analyses of effects of agriculture-rural policies (ex-ante and ex-post) on rural economies through:
o i) development of the quantitative assessment tools for the impact assessment of CAP, with a particular focus on Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) models,
o ii) carrying out socio-economic analysis on rural economies;
• initiation, management and monitoring of related research projects (i.e. preparing technical specifications, evaluating results, drafting policy reports);
• organisation of scientific events (workshops, etc.); publishing scientific articles and technical reports, and participate in scientific conferences.

Requirements

He/she should have experience and a track record of research in the area of CGE modelling and either agricultural/rural policy on farming or regional economics. The candidate should possess strong analytical skills. Experience in analyses based on case study approach, knowledge of statistical approaches, modelling tools and software (e.g. GAMS) are an asset. The ability to work in a multi-cultural and interdisciplinary environment is necessary.


Eligible Candidates

Candidates must hold a doctoral degree or having fulfilled all the obligations to obtain a PhD (certified by the university) or having a minimum of 5 years research experience after the first university degree giving access to doctoral studies (which may include periods of training such as a masters degree) in a field relevant to the JRC's scientific activities.

A very good level of written and spoken English is essential and knowledge of at least one other EU language is compulsory.
