We are especially successful in responding to the needs of government and public service organisations, and have recently won grants from the ESRC, Joseph Rowntree Foundation, Home Office, Cabinet Office, national charities such as Age Concern and the Responsibility in Gambling Trust, and a wide variety of public services in the East Midlands and beyond.
Applications are particularly invited from students to carry out research in the following aspects of social policy or criminology:
• Ageing and social inclusion/exclusion;
• Faith and social welfare;
• Gambling and social responsibility;
• Geography of social problems and public service provision;
• Homelessness;
• Public policy-making;
• Volunteering and social citizenship;
• Welfare in Asian societies and the Chinese community;
• Criminology (crime reduction, policing, youth justice and criminological theory).
The Graduate School is recognised by the ESRC (Economic and Social Research Council) for research training in Social Policy (including Public Policy, Applied Sociology, Criminology, Social Work Research, and Public Health), Politics, Psychology and Business & Management.
