UK: Post Doctoral Research Fellow in Environmental Engineering and Water Reseources Engineering

Overview

The Environmental Engineering Group in the Department of Urban Engineering, London South Bank University has been undertaking internationally significant research in the areas of groundwater flow and contaminant transport modelling, integrated water resources system modelling and management, climate change impact modelling on water resources, modelling and control of wastewater treatment, compact and efficient biological nutrient removal process development, and bioenergy generation from waste.

The Research Fellow will contribute to cutting-edge research on developing an innovative novel hybrid modelling system by integrating traditional mechanistic models with a-state-of-the-art computational intelligence applicable to environmental and hydrological system including groundwater or wastewater treatment processes.

The Research Fellow will work with Dr Timothy Yoon-Seok Hong of the Environmental Engineering Group and will be expected to have experience and track record in environmental systems modelling, hydrological modelling, or modelling and control of biological wastewater treatment systems. He/she will also have knowledge of numerical modelling and computer programming using tools such as MATLAB, C++, JAVA and other scientific programming languages. Knowledge and experience in computational intelligence (neural network, neuro-fuzzy, and genetic programming, etc.) would be advantageous.

The Research Fellow will be expected to prepare progress reports, publish research papers in high impact international peer reviewed journals, explore possible funding opportunities and contribute to applications for research grants. He/she may be required to take part in teaching and supervision of student projects.

At Research Assistant level the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to appropriate aspects of the above activities under supervision. This is a fixed term appointment available for 2 years

You will be qualified to PhD level or have equivalent experience in your area of specialism. The post will be for 2 years in the first instance and will be subject to annual review. There might be the possibility of renewal for a third year. You will carry out leading-edge research resulting in high impact journal publications and knowledge transfer, and contribute to external income generation
The Research Assistant post is graded at Grade 6 (spine points 23 – 29) of the University’s single spine. The full time salary range is £27,255 to £31,942 per annum, inclusive of £3,103 academic London Weighting per annum.
