2011 Mäler Scholarship in Environmental Economics

Overview

The Beijer Institute of Ecological Economics (www.beijer.kva.se) is pleased to announce the second round of the Mäler Scholar competition. The institute is an international center of excellence at the interface of ecology and economics. It is based in the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm, Sweden and has a small staff of researchers who work on a variety of ecological-economics issues.

The institute created the Mäler Scholarship in 2009, in honor of Professor Karl-Göran Mäler's long-standing contributions to environmental economics around the world. The scholarship is funded by a grant from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency. It is intended for researchers from environmental economics networks in developing regions of the world who have completed at least one network-funded research project. It allows researchers to spend up to 6 months at the institute preparing manuscripts from their existing research projects and developing new projects in collaboration with Beijer researchers. It covers travel costs to and from Stockholm and provides a monthly allowance for lodging and meals. For information on past recipients, please visit http://www.beijer.kva.se/sida.php?id=44.

The institute is now accepting applications from researchers affiliated with four environmental economics networks-CEEPA, EEPSEA, LACEEP, and SANDEE-who are interested in spending time at the institute during 2011. Applicants should e-mail a document containing the following information to Christina Leijonhufvud (Beijer administrator; chris@beijer.kva.se) by November 15, 2010:

1. Part 1 (maximum 1 page)-A description of the research the applicant would like to conduct while at Beijer, including the names of Beijer researchers the applicant would like to interact with and a discussion of how the time spent at Beijer is expected to contribute to the applicant's professional development. Applicants can learn more about Beijer researchers and their current projects here: http://www.beijer.kva.se/staff.php.

2. Part 2 (maximum 5 pages)-An up-to-date CV that provides information on the applicant's education (including short courses), positions held, publications, grants, and professional activities.

3. Part 3 (maximum 1 page)-A proposed schedule showing the approximate dates when the applicant would like to be in residence at Beijer. The residency must be for a minimum of 2 months and a maximum of 6 months, with longer visits encouraged. It can be divided into two separate visits. Note: please avoid the period from late June to early August, as most Beijer researchers are away during that period.

Please note that this material should be included in a single document, not three separate ones. Applications must be from individuals. Group applications will not be considered.
