The Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) offers the DESY Fellowship Programme for young scientists in experimental particle physics and accelerator physics.
Fellows in Experimental Particle Physics are invited to participate in DESY’s particle physics research:
- Experimental particle physics
- Theoretical particle physics
- Photon science
- Accelerator physics
Fellows in experimental particle physics are invited to participate in DESY’s particle physics research: The HERA experiments H1, ZEUS, HERMES, the AMANDA/IceCube experiment at the south pole and the preparations for experimentation at the future International Linear Collider ILC and R&D in particle detectors (FLC group).
Fellows in experimental particle physics are invited to participate in DESY’s particle physics research: the HERA experiments H1, ZEUS, and HERMES; the LHC experiments ATLAS and CMS at CERN; the AMANDA/IceCube experiment at the south pole; and the preparations for experimentation at the future International Linear Collider ILC and R&D in particle detectors (FLC group).
Qualified fellows in theoretical particle physics are invited to participate in theoretical particle physics research within the DESY theory groups. At DESY in Hamburg, active areas of research include HERA physics and QCD, B physics, collider physics, neutrino physics and cosmology, unified theories, string theory and mathematical physics. At DESY in Zeuthen, the theoretical research includes lattice gauge theory, perturbative quantum field theory and physics at HERA, LHC and the projected ILC.Fellows in photon science are invited to participate in DESY’s research at the HASYLAB, which uses the storage rings DORIS and PETRA and the free electron laser FLASH.
Fellows in accelerator physics will contribute to the development, construction and operation of accelerator facilities (HERA, DORIS, FLASH, PETRA III, XFEL, ILC, PITZ).
Individuals who have recently completed their PhD and who are younger than 32 years are invited to apply.
Handicapped persons will be given preference to other equally qualified applicants. DESY supports the careers of women and therefore encourages especially women to apply.
DESY Fellowships are awarded for a duration of two years with the possibility of a prolongation by one additional year. The salary for the fellowship is according to tariffs applicable for public service work.
Application Deadline: Wednesday 30th September 2009
