Overview
A postdoctoral position is available in the Department of Pharmacology, University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, Iowa City IA, starting from July/August, 2010 (negotiable). The laboratory is interested in studying Ion Channel modulations and cellular plasticity in neuronal excitability, in relation to pain and seizures. In particular, projects are aimed at studying the regulation of expression, trafficking, localization and functions of voltage-gated Na+/K+ channels by diverse cellular signal transduction pathways. These projects utilize primary neuronal cultures/co-cultures, biochemical, proteomic, cell/molecular biological, and electrophysiological techniques, as well as diverse rodent behavioral assays to answer important questions. Go to our lab website (http://web.me.com/dmohapatra/Mohapatra_Lab/Home.html) for more info on our research work.
Requirements
Ph.D. with thorough training/experience in patch-clamp electrophysiology (preferably on Nav and/or Kv channels), as well as basic knowledge in cell physiology is a must. Experience in intracellular recordings in brain/spinal cord slices, and any of the above-mentioned techniques will be an added advantage.
For this position, applicants without the above-mentioned expertise/training will not be considered at all.
Women and underrepresented minorities with the required training/experience will be given preference.
The laboratory has its own tissue culture, biochemical, cell/molecular biological, electrophysiological, microscopy and rodent behavioral analysis facilities. The University of Iowa, College of Medicine has excellent central/core research facilities (Genomic, Proteomic, Microscopy & Imaging, and Gene-targeting cores) for the rapid advancement of research work. Iowa City is one of the most beautiful University towns in the Midwest of US, which offers relatively inexpensive cost of living.
