Fulbright Flinders University Distinguished Chair in American Political Science 2011-2012

Overview

The Distinguished Chair Program is viewed as among the most prestigious appointments in the Fulbright Scholar Program.

Established in 2005, this scholarship is for a leading U.S. professor to conduct collaborative research at the host institution along with some guest lectures at advanced undergraduate and postgraduate levels. A national tour with guest presentations at institutions across Australia will be coordinated in cooperation with the Fulbright Commission and the U.S. Embassy. The scholarship supports a 4-5 month position.

The Fulbright Distinguished Chair Program operates through the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES, www.cies.org/Chairs/) and operates much like the U.S. Fulbright Senior Scholar Program.

There are currently only about 40 Fulbright Distinguished Chairs across 15 countries. The Australian Fulbright Distinguished Chair is the only Fulbright Distinguished Chair outside of Europe and Israel, and the first ever in the East Asia Pacific.

The specialisation could include political thought, comparative politics, government, federalism, foreign policy, international relations (including security). Recognition as a scholar and teacher with rank of full or Associate Professor is required.
